"Clearly
a man not to hold back if he has something to say;
his comments, coupled with spectacular scenery, such as around
Clew Bay, Doolough and Uggool Beach, made for an interesting
programme.
John Murray provided the pictures and Somers provided the
words in what
was the most memorable programme of the week."
Declan
Moroney, Ireland on Sunday.
Filmed
through an Irish summer, this six part walking series follows
acclaimed international writer and mountaineer Dermot Somers
on a 400 mile journey through Ireland's most remote and spectacular
landscapes. Entering his 50th year and after twenty years
of travelling and climbing around the world - Dermot turns
his attention on his home country.
The
journey itself is from Ireland's northernmost tip, Malin Head,
to the southernmost tip, Mizen Head, taking in the finest
scenery in the country along the way.
Each
programme has a strong element of adventure, - the most amazing
views but also the most rugged and exciting ridges through
the mountains. Mountains will not be the only wilderness area
explored, there are deep caves in various parts of the western
seaboard where ancient man slept 10,000 years ago and now
so does Dermot.
The
series illustrates that Ireland is very much still part of
it's wilderness and that modern Ireland is a different world
far below and far away. Dermot's route avoids towns, villages
and motorways to show the sort of untouched Ireland that still
exists.
