"This
excellent, quietly courageous film had no polemical or
satirical agenda. It simply sought to discover why a handful
of
young men continue to heed The Call when so many more ignore
the blinking of that message light on
their spiritual answerphones."
Liam
Fay, The Sunday Times
It is now highly unusual for a young man to pack his bags
and head into the last of Ireland's Seminary Colleges. Becoming
a priest demands an idealism & commitment almost incomprehensible
to most outside observers - taking almost a decade of prayer,
discipline & study to lock yourself into a life of obedience
to the church - if you get through.
The Seminary follows the intimate personal stories of three
men through a year in Ireland's largest seminary, St Patrick's
College, Maynooth. The film tries to discover what motivates
these modern males to give up what most men spend their lives
in hot pursuit of - wealth, sex, big jobs, prestige ...
Filmmaker
Donncha ÓBriain spent a year behind the scenes in Maynooth
and has produced a frank and intimate portrait of the convictions,
the conflicts & the temptations involved in this remarkable
business.
