SCOTT AND SHACKLETON: RIVALS FOR THE POLE

"Scott and Shackleton was beautifully written, cleverly structured and
tightly edited. It talked to all the right people, from writers to Arctic
historians to modern explorers (...) It looked good and sounded better."

Arminta Wallace, The Irish Times

This is the "behind the scenes" story of the greatest figures of polar exploration - Robert Falcon Scott & Ernest Shackleton. Filmed in Antarctica, Ireland and England - "Rivals For The Pole" digs deep into the bitter rivalry between these two fascinating personalities and explores the jealousies, intrigue and adventure that marked the final chapter in the great age of exploration. Throughout his whole Arctic life - Scott was haunted by the charismatic figure of Shackleton.

Contributors include family members - Helen, Alexandra & Jonathan Shackleton, adventurers and explorers including Dermot Somers, Ranulph Fiennes & David Hempleman Adams. We also talk to some of the most successful Antarctic authors including Caroline Alexander - author of the best seller "Endurance".

Filmed by Mick O'Rourke, Ross Bartley and Stephen O'Reilly
Directed and Produced by John Murray
