"Both
episodes were stunningly filmed by John Murray and Ross Bartley
and Somer's respect for the hardy Nenets shone through (...)
It was as fine a documentary film as you're likely to see;
visually stunning,
interrogative, in sympathy with its human and animal subjects.
A perfect
example of the quality of material being shown on TG4."

Kehoe, The Sunday Business Post
"Open
& sensitive, richly textured, beautifully photographed, original
& unique frame of reference on the life & thought-world of
the Nenets
tribe of Siberia. Spellbinding compelling & undoubtedly
compulsive documentary of quality."

Travelling
by reindeer sled with a family of nomads, this film heads
deep into Northern Siberia on the greatest traditional journey
left on earth.
Filmed by John Murray and Ross Bartley, over a four month
period in Siberia, this documentary is an intimate portrayal
of a unique journey and a way of life unchanged for centuries.
Every
year, an irrepressible bunch of Siberian natives, the Nenets,
travel by reindeer from their winter forest homes, 800 kms
north to the Arctic Ocean and back. The journey is the last
of its kind. Possessing the most intact culture left in the
Arctic, the Nenets live in tents of reindeer skin, eat raw
reindeer meat and travel on handmade wooden sleds.
The
film follows brothers, Sergei and Sasha and their families,
as they set off in temperatures of minus 30ºC travelling north
towards the Arctic Ocean. We return in mid summer to pick
up the story and film the end of the journey as the Nenets
reach the sea.
